NSW: Appeal lodged for gang rape sentence
An appeal has been lodged against a 55-year prison sentence imposed on the man wholed three separate gang rapes in Sydney's western suburbs.
The 20-year-old was yesterday sentenced in the District Court to serve a minimum 40years for the offences committed during August 2000.
Defence barrister TERRY HEALEY says an appeal has been lodged on all grounds -- includingrejection of the conviction, the severity of the sentence and matters of law.
He says the case could return to court as early as Christmas, but says the review willnot require direct involvement from the victims.
Mr HEALEY says three judges from the Court of Criminal Appeal will conduct the review.
