SA: Explosives detonated at Woomera in safety trial

ADELAIDE, April 19 AAP - Five tonnes of explosives will be detonated in South Australia's
far north next month as part of an international safety trial.

The explosives, to be tested about 25km from the Woomera township, will be surrounded
by industrial and residential structures.

Damage caused to the structures would be analysed and used to support and enhance international
safety criteria for handling and storage of explosives, the Defence Department said today.

The May 6 blast will be conducted by Australia's Defence Science and Technology Organisation
and the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence.
